with 3 minutes left in the game, the puck flies up near the Arizona bench, it appears to touch a player on the bench but the refs miss it, Clayton Keller takes off on a breakaway and scores the winning goal, Arizona wins 1-0, and the Golden Seals win the game.
Hours after the game, the NHL stats division reviews the goal. They determine that the puck actually hit Goligoski in the face while he was sitting on the bench. Then, OEL comes off for a change and Goligoski goes on the ice just before the Keller goal goes in the net. The NHL determines that, although the play should have been blown dead, the puck did touch Goligoski, and he was on the ice for the goal, so they award him an assist after the fact. Rockets win.
So Letang passes to Crosby for a breakaway, Crosby rips one off the post then bats his own rebound out of mid air. Should that still be an assist for Letang?
