Would be pretty bad optics to vaccinate a bunch of well-off, super healthy professional athletes before old people in nursing homes, kids going back to school, etc.

The number of doses relative to impact is pretty crazy. I get the optics. But this makes no sense.

I get the impression they were strongly considering buying a stock of doses for all involved in putting forth an NHL season, but then it leaked, those bad optics reared their heads and Bettman had to deny it.

When my 70 yr old mom can’t get a vaccine I can surely say a ****ing hockey player getting one is indeed bad optics. I’ll gladly die on that hill. Sports players are nowhere near the top of the vaccine list.

How many doses would be needed to vaccinate all NHLers and staff that comes in contact with them? I feel like 10-20k has to be on the high end, right? We're at 1mm doses/day nationally. I would bet that we lose more doses to spoilage per day than there are actual players in the NHL.

In the current environment, the sport loses more than it gains by doing it, that's for sure.

We are going to have to get better about these kinds of cost/benefit discussions. Hockey being canceled, who cares? But we are definitely worse off because we turned this into a political issue.

I just about made a post today complaining about Eichel/Guentzel/Rantanen being out tonight, but hit delete before I sent it because I realized other teams probably have it way worse. Just looked at your lineup today. That's just brutal man.

I have John Carlson as my OT player tonight which means I can't list a 6th forward

I'm designating here that Kuznetsov is my 6th forward just in case he miraculously plays. He is my only option

The proper protocol is to put the players playing in but making the OT designation in here. (Not likely to matter with Kuznetsov anyways though.)

I keep setting new records for my worst lineup ever iced in this league, a new record every couple of games.

We currently/legitimately have 15 of 26 roster positions filled with players who are currently out for various reasons. And only one of those is a futures/roster stash (Blichfeld, who finished last year with the Sharks but is AHL to start this year). At this point all I can really do is find the humor in it...after game 5 we were in first place overall (which, there's absolutely no chance that would have lasted even at 100% health) then proceeded to lose 10 games in a row as injuries and COVID stacked up the bodies in the pressbox.

Guys I elevated off the farm due to roster constraints are now defaulted to my top six because there's no other choice, lol. Like I said, I'm not complaining...**** happens. I'm finding the funny.

Tonight, I have two forwards and one defenseman actually expected to play. Tonight was expected to be an 11 game night...hahahaha.

I legitimately wonder what the Vegas odds would be on my game against Zach tonight. Would we even be +1000 or would it be worse than that? This is like Appalachian State Division III vs Alabama in the Rose Bowl.

that's awesome. My boy used to be into hockey. Then weirdly just suddenly got out of it one year. He's slowly coming back, but he's actually really really gotten into darts. He watched all the world's with me, and the masters. Became a huge Stephen Bunting fan. He's coming up to me and talking about matches that happened 10 years ago that I've never watched. He's totally consumed.

Chisnall's wife is running a raffle for Bunting, and he sent her 10£ for 5 raffle tickets. He's hoping to win his match shirt against Wade when Wade had the 9 darter.

Seems like this has been well known since junior but he keeps getting chance after chance. I read that Georgiev snapped from some abuse TDA was dishing out and punched him square in the face with his blocker, and that's pretty telling considering Georgiev seems to be considered to be one of the most mild-mannered polite guys in hockey.

That is amazing. My kid also really got into Darts with me during the World championship this year. I took a hilarious video of him going nuts when Glen Durrant hit a double. He's only 6 so not navigating search engines or Youtube solo just yet but he likes to watch darts with me.

He's 6. He gets very excited when the Leafs win.

In the summer, we bought a bunch of random used kids books with various reading levels for learning to read. Quite a few sports related ones in there and there happens to be a little book about Auston Matthews' 4-goal game that happened to be one of the books at the reading level he was at at the time so he read it a lot. He was pretty excited when I pointed out Auston on the Leafs that it was the same guy from the book.

thats awesome, so great you can connect that way with your kids, takes the viewing experience to a higher level.

i'll add you guys to the group of friends+family that I try to think about and be happy for, when the Leafs do well, and not think about the "other" Leafs fans I despise who come out with their bravado.
