I'm with Adam, I think the playoff system is fine as is.

KC Reserves magic number to clinch their division is 1.

Toronto Rockets magic number to clinch their division is 4.

Golden Seals magic number to clinch first overall is 2.

Crop Dusters magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 2.

Injured Reserve magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 5.

New page, so wanted to bump this to get this thing back on track.

It's possible that all three divisions are locked up after tonight, and the Dusters can clinch their playoff spot.

The final playoff spot will go, at least, into game day 74.

It seems unlikely that the Whalers will lose to the Flyers tonight. Assuming he wins, the Gilmour could be very interesting. Game 79 for the Whalers is vs Broadway, while the Rockets get the IR. Should the Whalers win and the Rockets lose (and assuming the Rockets beat the Ales tonight), the division will come down to game 80, where the Rockets and Whalers go head to head.

Basically, any scenario where the Whalers gain one point on the Rockets in games 78 and 79 set up a winner take the division game on Tuesday.

I felt like my suggestion had a lot more than just "lets make changes just to make changes", but ok. I'm not suggesting I'm bored with the 4-5 matchup, I'm saying it goes against the point of the league as I see it.

while it probably wont matter anyway, I'm pretty sure I don't have goalies for that last game of the year.

I think adding the pick your own opponent rewards those who do their research. It rewards strategy and adds to the skill of the league.

I can tell you right now, I am too lazy to do the research, and won't do as much as Zach. But if he is willing to do that extra work, he should be rewarded and have that advantage available to him. I don't think it's just as easy as picking who finishes #8.

You would look at:
- goalie nights for your opponents
- short nights for your opponents
- key injuries to your opponents

There's so many variables. I think it would add a nice dynamic to our league. And make it more skill based rather than luck based.

Well that's fortunate. Looks like our F and D are both pretty stacked, though. And my goalies play two pretty offensive teams (VGK and PIT), so no goalies could be an advantage! haha.

I already do all of the work required to make this decision, to be honest. I even have provisions for injuries, but I haven't factored them in yet this season.

I kind of like the idea, but I don't care all that much.

I'm fine with all the seeding options including the current approach, I just think Dan's idea had a lot of potential. On top of goalie and player coverage, it also allows the 1 seed to try to play an opponent when they are vulnerable. Imagine a season where the top 2 seeds are way better than everyone else. The 1 seed gets to choose what round they play the 2 seed in. Add in the trash talk and emotion of it and it could be a lot of fun.

Ooh, are we talking about selecting second round opponents too?

That adds a whole other variable to the equation. I know if I want to win, I've gotta go through X. X is at their weakest in round 1, maybe we should just get it out of the way early?

Yes, it would be every round. After the first round, the highest seed would get choice again.

You are right in your second sentence, it adds a whole new layer to our league, which I think would make it a lot more fun & strategic.

In the second round, only 1 team is basically determine both matchups. You’d have to research how maybe 2nd best team matches up with other teams.

Maybe we should try this next year as a provisional, and if we like it we can vote it in permanently after that.

Or better still, why don't you guys who will be playing for Goodman's Memorial Rubbish Bin try it this year to see how it works?

That's the name of the trophy. If you search "Rubbish" on this site you'll find the picture Dubey made, I tried to port it over here but it wasn't happening on mobile.

Welp...

Rockets will win, Whalers will win. No movement on the division there, but the magic number drops to 2.

LGS in good shape. Should lock up $100 tonight.

KCR Reserves should clinch their division.

Barring a big night from Seguin, Dusters will clinch.

Asdfjkl; going to win, IR going to lose. We'll have a tie for 8th.
