we seem to always kind of have a pretty big split between the playoffs and non- playoffs, don't we? or maybe there's usually one team trying to sneak in? the division/league races are always much more exciting (though here only 1 division is even close, and even that...)
is this the most boring playoff race in sports standings history?
This is the first year I remember where it doesn't appear that anyone outside the top eight will stand much chance of getting in. Usually there's a team or two that miss the bubble in the last couple games of the year. This season it seems like the playoffs have been set since December. I don't remember any teams being locked into the playoffs this early before either.
I feel more optimistic about them than I have for the last 5+ years. This slump seems more the product of a young team not lack of effort, am I wrong?
I see some of them trying hard, but there are too many passengers and too many guys having really off years. Plus Housley's insufferable tendency to roll Sobotka as our 4th leading icetime forward. Ristolainen is playing bad most nights, Dahlin has had some very off nights (first time he's played more than 40 games in a season so I'm giving him a pass), Okposo should be getting paid about $1 million per year for what he contributes, rather than the $6 million he's getting. Pominville is just done. Scandella has been a train wreck who still consistently gets top-2 minutes. Matt Hunwick is a thing that exists and gets playing time.
Guys who are having a good/great season - Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart, McCabe, Pilut (sometimes...you can definitely see the rookie at times), Larsson (having some injury issues at the moment), Girgensons, Rodrigues, and that's pretty much it. Dahlin is great on the scoresheet, but he's also had some awful giveaways at the worst possible time that have definitely cost us games. Mittelstadt has been playing way better since the break, seems like he might be rounding into form. Sheary is okay...not great but not terrible either. Bogosian was playing pretty good until he got hurt...it's a minor miracle he lasted this long.
Hows Skinner playing? I know the stats have dried up a little for that line and the subsequent splitting up of that line, but Im curious to hear from someone who always watches how Skinner looks.
Also, Reinhart same question?
Thanks!

Skinner has been outstanding, it will be a tragedy if Buffalo doesn’t lock him up. Always in the mix, he can drive play, he draws penalties like crazy, and obviously he can bury that puck. Reinhart has also been outstanding this year, really taking a big step. At this point he looks like he’ll be a perennial 70 point player and might go above 80 a couple times.
Thanks Adam. I have a long history with both of these guys from other pools/Skinner being a Hurricane. I took both in my big pool this year, theyve been fantastic stat wise but I realized I dont watch too many Buff games.
its interesting with Skinner that he hasnt resigned, BUF is kind of dropping out of a playoff spot with a very young team, and there is next to 0 talk about him being traded.(at least that I have seen). I'm guessing the two sides are close to a deal, and something gets done soon. I always loved his offensive talent, and his skating was a treat to watch. I'm not sure he does very well without an Eichel type on his line, but who knows. I'll be interested to see how he responds next year being in a non contract year.
Reinhart, Ive noticed some of the same thing that John said, but it looks like his trajectory is really trending upward last 12 months, and even with some bumps, really going forward. He looked really good in the weekend games I saw, and that was without Eichel. Him and Middlestadt (Sp?) made a nice combo, maybe the best players in the Sunday/Sat game, cant recall which one. All I know is last January I traded Reinhart, at a time when he has like 10pts in 30gp, and since then hes been about 75pts in 80gp
good team, fun to watch, will be a real threat in the coming years if they get a Gtd, and some better secondary parts, IMO.

From what I understand, the team can only sign him to an 8-year deal after the deadline. That’s the only reason I’m being patient about the fact that he isn’t locked up yet.
Yeah Adam I think you are worn down from a decade of crap, this is an actual promising core. Dahlen has the odd goofy turnover but he is doing stuff as an 18/19 year old that is absurd. The only bad move was the O'Reilly trade.
Im finally get my injured guys back, and things are running well for me right now.
just worried this can't possibly sustain another 1.5months, during the playoffs, as much I hope it will.

OK, this is perfect. Sitting pretty in that #6 spot.
I honestly don't care who I draw in the first round, lately the Dusters have been just as tough of an out as anyone else.
Additional note - Everyone above me in the standings (except the Dusters) has officialy clinched with 8 games left and more than 16 points of separation from the KC Reserves (who have played their last doubleheader for the season). Lost Cause and Iowa Crop Dusters will clinch with their next point in any of the remaining games.

Vlad Tarasenko had an assist added which gives Golden Seals the win over the Hurricanes. It was previously a Hurricanes OT win.
