Yeah the most realistic outcome that I want is some sort of Liberal coalition. I didn't vote for them this time but I still prefer them to a Conservative majority or coalition.

And yeah, a nationalist Quebec government and the bloc as king makers could be a bad combo.

CBC had some other Liberal Party guy on and at some point they swapped him out for Bob Rae. Did Rae need a nap before coming on air?

CBC has more talking heads than TSN on trade center. How many of these goofs do we need?

Id prefer literally anything to a conservative govt (majority or minority). I voted NDP but would be fine with the Liberals even if they disappointed this term (and also aren’t all that liberal/left).

I honestly havent followed this election close enough, but I am small % worried that the Bloc has so many seats in a minority govt that they become the tiebreaker

Background on me: I used to be pretty involved in politics in my youth. Liberal Party, met Paul Martin a few times and worked with his team as an intern. I was very into it, and did some municipal stuff too. After a couple of years........I became totally disenfranchised with the people who run for politics. Frankly, its a disgusting game being played by life long liars. Unfortunately, I feel that way about 80% of them and fear its more like 95%. I dont care if its Libs, PC , NDP or Green. there are so many politicians who do it for all the wrong reasons.........or at least thats all the ones I met.

I added all that just to say that I was very into politics before, would watch every debate and read everything and think about running some day, and follow each election to death. Then I realized I was way too idealistic for this game. Now Im just a little bitter knowing next to none of these people will do anything to truly help the country

The only thing I know about the Bloc is they tend to lean left, which I’m for, but dunno how their Quebec influence would impact the rest of the country.

They lean left but support Bill C21. The fact no party actually came out with a firm stance on the bill really points to the pure cynicism Arp is describing above.

A friend of mine's partner is a very talented person who wanted to work in politics her entire life. When the NDP came into power for the first time in almost 20 years here she got a job as a staffer and fairly quickly gained a good reputation. She left after less than 2 years for basically the same reasons you described above.

His brother is the Premier of Ontario and the Liberals have tried to tie the federal Conservatives to him to scare some votes away from voting Conservative.

Bob Rae coming out and saying Rob Ford should have been used, because hes strong.....is such good TV

"Im no fan, but I know my opponents strength" Thats just gold to me.

I think he has a point, because if PC doesnt get some of the Central-Northern Ontario seats, it will be because they didnt use Ford

Libs up to 161 for a minute there. That’s dangerously close to a majority. wonder how tight those Cons-leading ridings are and if they could flip.

If is, and it's looking like it, it's rather ironic for Alberta.

They spent all that time gaslighting how Trudeau hates them (even though he bought them a pipeline) and now he's likely going to be in a coalition which supports even stronger carbon restrictions and is actually anti-pipeline.

If you are the NDP which of the following do you demand to be part of a coalition?

Electoral Reform or Pharmacare.

iirc Liberals were talking about Pharmacare (was in a pamphlet that was dropped off by my local  candidate) -- so I assume that would be a priority.

Nobody is even talking about electoral reform. Don’t see NDP pushing that. Pharmacare/dental care would be a good place to start. If this govt could accomplish that, it would be pretty great.

It’d be something to get pharmacare all the while my province is selling off the healthcare system to the highest bidders.

seems like most of the world is just getting more and more shrill. I have heard speculation that it's the internet making it possible to hear only the perspective you want, 24/7. the US is surely worse.

If you want to talk about a country eating itself, take a peak over here. We’re about to crash our own economy (further) because of a stupid and unnecessary referendum that occurred nearly four years ago that asked an ideological question to an uninformed populous. Now that we know more about the pitfalls of following through on the result of that result, we’re being told it must stand no matter the impact.

I’m all for democracy but it’s like being shown a picture of a burger and being asked ‘do you want this burger, yes or no?‘, saying yes only to find out the burger is actually made out of puppies and being told that it’ll cost £1000. Then being told that because we said yes that one time, we have to buy the burger no matter what and we can’t make a difference decision now we have the new info.

Stupidest thing ever.

I've been following brexit, just because of the market impact and my job. The way the issue has split parliament is something I have never seen before, and the thing is endlessly complicated. The funny thing is, there are people on the right here in the US with a super strong opinion about the UK needing out of the EU. If I were a less polite person, I would put them on the spot to explain the Irish backstop.

Honestly, you could asked 90% of the UK that (possibly including some of our inept politicians) and they also couldn't explain.

A lot of people here are convinced that Trudeau hates the west and is actively sabotaging the oil industry in the name of climate action. They were convinced that the CPC was going to return Alberta to the glory days. My Facebook feed is an absolute cesspool recently, even after unfollowing every person who made a political post leading up to the election.

The hate for Trudeau is through the roof, and the hate for “liberals” is a relatively new thing, at least being spoken about

publicly for the first time that I can remember. I honestly avoid mentioning who I voted for or bringing up my political beliefs with people that I don’t know very well because the absolute outrage and condescension is very real around these parts and it has been growing to a fever pitch recently.

And yet www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-western-canada-trans-mountain-1.5332365

Part of the problem with Trudeau is his name ... well technically his fathers name. Because he did f over the west with the National Energy Policy.

The west also hates the fact that a lot of power is concentrated in Ontario. Like I overheard some drunk dude bitching while eating dinner out in BC: "Ontario: It starts with a Zero and ends with a Zero".

The problem is that there are a lot of Conservative voters across the country they are going full GOP; except for Handguns and God is Pipelines/no Carbon tax and budget cuts. They have an amazing % of voter share in Alberta and Saskatchewan but all they are doing is riling up their base; not much efforts to appeal to non prairie voters. They've gone full on blinders and forgotten that the glory days when oil prices were way higher and pre-fracking in the US that has completely blown out reserve estimates. But I remember in the Mulroney days the Conservatives would clean up in Maritimes. Hell I think Manitoba went for the Liberals as well.

They can bitch about Ottawa all they want but it was BC + Supreme Court that blocked them on Transmountain. How much of these precious pipelines were built under Harper? He was too busy wasting time with Keystone XL.
